Help Child Care Aware of MO help children of Joplin, MO

As we all have seen on TV the disaster stricken Joplin, MO, the child care centers in Joplin are also the victims of the recent deadly tornadoes. National Asscoaition of Child Care Resource and Referral Agency (NACCRRA) reports that approximately 500 children are without child care.

Please click here to make your contributions online to Child Care Aware of Missouri. Make sure "in memory/or honor of" field you type "Joplin."

New Car Seat Recommendations by American Academy of Pediatrics

Have you heard about the new update on car seat recommendation by AAP?

AAP advices parents to buckle up their children in rear-facing car seat until age 2 or until they reach the maximum height and weight allowed by the manufacturer of their CSS (car seat safety).

Once children reach age 2 or the maximum height and weight allowed by the manufacturer of their CSS parents should continue to buckle them in a forward-facing car seat until they have reached 4 ft 9 inches which is typically between ages 8 and 12 years.

March 2nd is Dr. Seuss' Birthday!

I am sure if you are an early childhood educator you know the name Dr. Seuss. You are probably aware of some of his celebrated children's books such as The Cat in the Hat, Fox in Socks, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

Dr. Suess' full name is Theodor Seuss Geisel who was an American writer and a cartoonist. In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, March 2nd has been adopted as the annual date for National Read Across America day an initiative of National Education Association (NEA).

Make sure you enjoy reading books to your children on March 2nd and everyday thereafter!!

SAY NO TO DRASTIC CUTS!

NHSA ALERT!

Last week, the US House of Representatives introduced H.R. 1 which would fund the Federal government for the remaining 6 months of FY 2011 by slashing funding for many key programs. This included a drastic nearly 22.4 percent cut to Head Start programs that would result in more than 200,000 children losing services and more than 50,000 Head Start employees losing their jobs. The US House will be debating this bill over the next week and then the US Senate will look at it in the following weeks.

Revised Head Start Framework

I'm sure if you work in a Head Start program you are aware that Head Start Child Outcomes Framework have been revised by the Office of Head Start (OHS). But if you are an early childhood educator/prgram that voluntarily follows Head Start Child Outcomes Framework then please note that the new revised framework has been released by OHS.

It now has a new title: The Head Start Child Development & Early Learning Framework.

They have added 3 new domain as well. Please visit the OHS Website to learn more about the revised framework.
